Reemployment Assistance (also called reemployment assistance insurance) provides temporary wage replacement benefits to qualified individuals who are out of work through no fault of their own.

In order to qualify for benefits, you must:

• Have lost your job through no fault of your own.
• Be actively looking for a new job.
• Be ready to take a new job when offered.
• Meet wage requirements based on your previous job(s).

Our job seekers come to us with one of two messages about social media.  The first one is that they are familiar with social media. They use it all the time in their personal and professional life and are comfortable with using social media.

The second group’s message is completely different.  Not only is this group clueless about social media, but, they are scared to use it for any reason: personally or professionally.

Social media use in a job campaign has advantages and disadvantages. We focus on the benefits by describing the large audience exposure that social media offers. It’s also a free tool that when used properly can tap into hidden job markets that may have not been known otherwise.  We all know that social media is the employer’s first choice for recruiting these days. We suggest that job seekers create a social media strategy, establish an online professional portfolio and build a quality network.

Our job seekers may already know that social media networking mistakes can damage their online presence, but may not be fully aware of its impact on their job campaign and career.  Therefore, we emphasize five tips about using social media in their job search campaign.

1. Be careful about what you post on Facebook, Twitter, and on blogs.  Current and future employers will read what you have posted.
2. Make sure to Google yourself and find out what is posted under your name.  This will tell you what is posted on the most popular links about you.  If there is digital dirt, the time to clean it up is now.  Make sure no one else by your name has some horrible things popping up in search results.
3. Set all of your social media networks and profiles to private.  Be very careful who you accept as your friends and connections.
4. Begin identifying yourself using your middle initial on your resume and job related search documents.  You may avoid confusion between yourself and someone with potentially damaging information on the web.
5. Decide what social media venues you want to use in your job search and keep all content strictly professional.  Do not mix personal and professional content as this may be deemed as undesirable by an employer or recruiter.

The knowledge that employers and recruiters value social media presence is key to assisting job seekers in developing a professional digital presence as part of their overall job campaign.

Employees who earn a Ready to Work credential are considered equipped with the skills needed to enter the workforce. This credential demonstrates to current and future employers that perspective employees have the necessary skills for successful job performance.

Mastery of three assessments is required to earn a Ready to Work credential, which includes an evaluation of reading for information, applied mathematics and locating information. The results of these assessments place the jobseeker in one of three levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold) that allow them to market their abilities to employers. Jobseekers receive a Ready to Work credential signed by the Governor to confirm their skills and abilities.
